Get your nails holiday ready with shopkick and Sally Hansen Color Therapy

December 21, 2016

December is here and the holiday parties are around the corner. Are you and your nails ready for the festive activities? I have partnered with shopkick and Sally Hansen Color Therapy to share with you how to get your nails party ready while enjoying yourself and having fun.

Get your rewards

Many times I have told my husband “You don’t understand, shopping is a whole lot of work. I should just get rewarded for going to 3 different stores in a day”. And he would laugh at me. But not to worry, shopkick can make that happen. With this app, I get rewarded for just walking into a store! Say what?! Yes, there are many ways to get rewarded on Shopkick and simply walking into a store is one. Easy peasy! Just open the app when you’re at the store entrance, and voila, you earn 50 kicks! Kicks are like points, when you have reached a certain amount of kicks, you can redeem them for real gift cards at your favorite store.

There are other ways you can earn kicks. Like I said, walking into a certain store is one. Another one is using the app to scan item barcodes. Or if you make a purchase, use the app to submit your receipts and earn even more kicks. Another great way to earn kicks is to invite friends to download and use the app. So make sure you download yours here and start earning kicks today!

Get your deals

Not only can you earn real rewards with shopkick, but you can also look for current deals and promotions at your local stores. In just one app, you can see all the deals from different stores so you can plan your shopping accordingly.

The app has 3 tabs for easy browsing: Stores, Deals and Products. In Stores, you can browse all the stores local to you by distance and available ways to earn kicks from each store. In Deals, you can browse all the available promotions in stores around you. And in Products, you can browse feature products by category and the stores they are available at.

Hunt for your perfect shade

Now let’s talk about the perfect shade for your nails. If you haven’t heard, Sally Hansen Color Therapy has Argan Oil base – making the product a unique line in the marketplace. I’m in love with the shiny finish and how the formula soothes imperfections. The argan oil base nourishes and moisturizes my dry nails so well. Especially in the winter months, a beautiful color that cares while you wear is a must have!

You can checkout and purchase the Sally Hansen Color Therapy collection from Walmart or Target. I used my shopkick app to locate a local Walmart and went in store because I wanted to see the color choices in person (and walking in store earns kicks, duh!). I ended up getting:

  • Sally Hansen Color Therapy Polish in Mauve Mantra (pink) and Exotic Açai (deep purple)
  • Sally Hansen Color Therapy Top Coat
  • Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail & Cuticle Oil

Pamper yourself

Now it’s time to cozy up on a couch with a cup of hot cocoa and get painting! I start with clean and perfectly shaped nails. Then one hand at a time, apply one coat of polish on all fingers.

*Tip: Don’t worry if one coat doesn’t look so good. Just try to get a thin and even coverage. The second coat will give you a much better finish!

Now apply second coat as evenly as you can. I learn that this formula dries quickly, so work fast. Once it starts drying, don’t brush back and forth anymore. Leave it drying, and come back with a third coat to even the polish if you must.

With two coats – Sally Hansen Color Therapy color Exotic Açai

Then repeat with your other hand. Yes, it is a pain to use your non dominant hand to paint the other one. I find that resting both your elbows on the table helps. If you accidentally paint on cuticles, which is totally normal, wipe the polish off your cuticle asap. It comes off easily while wet, don’t wait till it’s all dry.

When you’re done with two coats on both hands, let the polish dry before applying Sally Hansen Color Therapy Top Coat. If the polish is still wet and you apply top coat, you may get color transfer onto the brush.

Let polish dry completely before applying top coat

Wait again for everything to dry completely. Then use the Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail & Cuticle Oil and brush it onto your nails as well as cuticles. This step is optional but makes me feel extra pampered because at nail salons, they brush cuticle oil on your nails when finished and I love doing that at home too. You can then repeat using this oil daily to nourish your nails.

You are now ready for the holidays! I’m very impressed at how shiny my nails look and the color pay off is amazing. I cannot wait to test out the other pink color I got. I might have to come back to the store for more colors now. I’m thinking red this time. What color will you be sporting for the holidays this year?

That argan oil base sounds amazing! I always struggle with small imperfections when doing my own nails, so this sounds perfect! 😀 Also, I’m with you on shopping and how much of a hassle it can be. I can’t believe that Shop Kick app exists though! It is so innovative and will definitely incentivize me to shop in-stores more. Thanks so much for sharing all of this love, I’ve learned so many useful things!! :))

I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that too few people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this in my hunt for something relating to this.

✨ Wood signs for my little Prince baby shower ✨:

- I ordered custom adhesive vinyl decals to be printed for large dimensions (around 3-5 ft tall).
- Cut the shapes out, and trace the shapes on wood boards (I used 1/4” thick plywood).
- I put painter tape around the traced line to reduce wood chipping when cutting with a saw later.
- Cut the shapes on the wood boards with a jig saw.
- Brad nail leftover woods on the back to make a stand for the signs (some small pieces of 2x4 worked well).
- Apply the adhesive back of the art decals onto the wood signs.
- Enjoy! 🩵✨🎠

☺️ What I’d do different if I do this again:
1. The horse and carriage are ok, but I’d loved the castle to be taller.
2. Use foam boards instead of wood for lighter weight. Wood would be great if these signs will be outside where it might be windy, but for indoors event, I would do foam.

My birth story 🤰🏻:
I went to bed at 39w3d with contractions 10 minutes apart, but had thought they were faux labor contractions (because I had Braxton Hicks and prodromal contractions most of pregnancy) so I didn’t think much of it. I woke up at 2am and called my doctor at 4am since contractions were 7 min apart (still thinking they were not real 😂). Good thing she told me to come in. I debated if I should put makeup on and decided to not - wise decision! During the car ride, 7 min apart became 5 min apart. When we arrived at hospital, I was 6cm dilated. I asked for epidural and by the time I got one, I was 8cm dilated. I started pushing shortly after, and baby came after 20 minutes of pushing.
