Azazie ‘Maren’ Dress review

Where and how do you shop for special occasion dresses?

Azazie is an online store with a huge selection of beautiful dresses for special occasions that allow you to order with your custom sizing for a perfect tailored fit. They pride themselves in high quality yet affordable pieces that ship right to your door. Today, I will be reviewing my experience creating a custom sized dress with Azazie, particularly in this style ‘Maren‘.

Side story:

At first, when I saw Azazie dress collection, I knew I wanted a red dress, no matter what style it is. Dylan and I had previously taken engagement photos already, but the first shoot was taken at the Civic Park in Denver. Even though the big columns there were really cool, made the photos look like we’re in a castle, I still wanted another shoot with nature as well. So my original intent was to use this dress for our second engagement shoot session in the mountains. When the scheduled shoot day came, however, it was rainy, windy and too cold, you know how the weather is very unpredictable in the mountains. So even though we drove there with my pretty dress and Dylan all dressed up too, the shoot didn’t happen. He snapped a few shots of me instead in this dress, since we were already there. And if any of the two of us can brave the cold better, I’ve had better practice than Dylan shooting photos for my blog 🙂

My experience with Azazie:

It was overall a good experience. I started by ordering the Maren style in red color and giving them my measurements. They provided on the website instructions on how to measure your own body, so that was very helpful. They promised the dress to arrive within 8 weeks from when the order was placed, and I received it after only 6 weeks, which is really great! However, this is to say that if you want to custom make a dress from them, please don’t wait until the very last week to make an order, unless they have your standard size, color and style already available in the Clearance sale, those styles ship immediately.

I was very excited to try on the dress when the package was delivered. Only to find out that it was a tad bit large on me. In the instructions on their site, it was stated to add a little room for comfort when giving my measurements, and that’s what I did. But I think if I didn’t, the dress would have fit perfectly, since it was loose only by half an inch. I took it to the tailor and had it fixed up, and it was easy enough I got the dress back and still made the scheduled shoot date. However, I could see how it’s frustrating if someone orders it and times it for their event, and the dress comes not fitting perfectly and they have to pay more money to get it sized down. I mean that defeats the purpose of “custom sizing” doesn’t it?

The quality of the dress is really great though, like they promised! And the style looks exactly like displayed on the website. I would recommend this dress and this brand to anyone looking for a special occasion dress (bride, bridesmaid, wedding guest, etc). However, pick a standard size that you know you fit (XS, S, M, L) or give it a lot of time when you order before the event in case the dress needs to be fixed up. And even though my dress was too big, I wouldn’t suggest giving them too small measurements, because it’s easier to fix a large dress than to fix a tight one!

    Oh my gosh! Someone needs to roll out the red carpet for you girly! You look incredible and these photos turned out really well, although you must have been freezing- bless you! It’s such a shame that it didn’t quite fit, especially since you followed the instructions whilst providing your measurements. Nonetheless, it’s fits like a glove now 🙂
