Spring break makeup tutorial with essence and a chance to win 2-day NYC workshop

March 23, 2017

Spring is finally here guys! If you’re still in school, that means spring break is either happening right now or just around the corner. I’m partnering with essence and Her Campus today to show you this fun and simple makeup tutorial you can achieve for a perfect spring look. I’ll be featuring quality essence makeup products at incredible price point (none of the products I’m using is more than $5.99).

Essence is currently running a #WatchMeSparkle campaign to build a community that is inspired by fun, bold, confident girls who aren’t afraid to be themselves or to wear makeup. So if you’d like a chance to be one of the 8 winners of a 2-day workshop in NYC to discuss these topics, be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to see how to enter.

1. Prep

I have already put on foundation to start with. If you don’t like wearing foundation, then skip it. Let’s jump right into prepping the eyes. I am using essence 2in1 Eyeshadow & Primer in 01 nude beige, to smooth out my lids for a flawless canvas so I can apply the fun eyeshadows next!

2. Eyeshadow

I’ll be using essence Smokey Eye Set in 03 – smokey rose for my eyes today. Start with the satin color (top of the palette) for the crease areas, then use the shimmering color (bottom of the palette) for my outer corners and lid areas, leaving the inner corners untouched. I have also tried the other way around, use the shimmering color for my crease and then the satin color for my lids and this way looks great too.

To finish, use the neutral color (far right of the palette) for my inner corners as well as brow bones.

3. Eyeliner & Mascara

Apply your favorite eyeliner, I love a sharp liquid eyeliner and a little bit of wing at the end. Then I apply the False Lashes Mascara Dramatic Volume Unlimited. You’ll see what a dramatic difference this mascara makes on my thin lashes!

4. Eyebrows

If I’m on spring break, I love anything quick and easy. So this essence make me brow jumbo eyebrow pencil makes my life a bit easier. Just fill in the brows with small strokes. A jumbo pencil is so much quicker for me than a powder or a gel liner, and you don’t need an extra brush. I’m using color 10-blonde here.

5. Contouring

This essence Shape Your Face Contouring Palette is awesome! It has all the three functions in one. This one I’m using is color 10-ready set peach! I use the deep brown color for contouring, on my cheeks like pictured above and the two sides of my nose. Then I use the light color in the middle for highlighting: on my cheek bones on above the contour and then on top of my nose. Last, the peach color on the far right is such a great blush. It’s so natural for my medium skin tone, I can’t get enough of it!

6. Extra glow

This essence pure nude highlighter is optional, but oh so good. This has to be my favorite product from the look today. This highlighter gives a nice glow to your skin and you look like you glow from within, perfect for spring and summer coming up. I apply it on top of the highlight I added from step 5, and again on top of the nose. Sometimes even right above the high points of my brows and also above upper lips. Basically wherever the light hits, and you want to bring out the beautiful features of your face.

7. Lips

Last but not least, lipstick! I’m actually just using a lip liner here, since I love this plum color. It matches with my eye makeup, and is so long lasting. This is essence long lasting lipliner in 07 plum cake.

And DONE! This look is complete. You  are ready to go have fun this spring break! I hope you enjoy this tutorial, feel bold and confident in this makeup look. And don’t forget to checkout the #WatchMeSparkle campaign and how to win the NYC trip below.

What a great tutorial and giveaway to go to NYC! I love it when I find an asian blogger that does make up because it is so hard to contour when my face is essentially flat with no high cheek bones. Love the color palate you used, def Spring ready!

✨ Wood signs for my little Prince baby shower ✨:

- I ordered custom adhesive vinyl decals to be printed for large dimensions (around 3-5 ft tall).
- Cut the shapes out, and trace the shapes on wood boards (I used 1/4” thick plywood).
- I put painter tape around the traced line to reduce wood chipping when cutting with a saw later.
- Cut the shapes on the wood boards with a jig saw.
- Brad nail leftover woods on the back to make a stand for the signs (some small pieces of 2x4 worked well).
- Apply the adhesive back of the art decals onto the wood signs.
- Enjoy! 🩵✨🎠

☺️ What I’d do different if I do this again:
1. The horse and carriage are ok, but I’d loved the castle to be taller.
2. Use foam boards instead of wood for lighter weight. Wood would be great if these signs will be outside where it might be windy, but for indoors event, I would do foam.

My birth story 🤰🏻:
I went to bed at 39w3d with contractions 10 minutes apart, but had thought they were faux labor contractions (because I had Braxton Hicks and prodromal contractions most of pregnancy) so I didn’t think much of it. I woke up at 2am and called my doctor at 4am since contractions were 7 min apart (still thinking they were not real 😂). Good thing she told me to come in. I debated if I should put makeup on and decided to not - wise decision! During the car ride, 7 min apart became 5 min apart. When we arrived at hospital, I was 6cm dilated. I asked for epidural and by the time I got one, I was 8cm dilated. I started pushing shortly after, and baby came after 20 minutes of pushing.
