Best 14 lipsticks for Valentine’s Day

I’m a lipstick addict, junkie, collector, whatever you want to call it. I purchase lipsticks when I’m in a bad mood, when I’m in a good mood, or just because. And the collection keeps growing with my favorite brands being MAC, Stila, YSL, Chanel and recently Kylie Cosmetics. I figured I’d do a lipstick round up since Valentine’s Day is coming so close. Whether you have a date with a Valentine or a galentine, a good lip color will complete your look. Here is the best 14 lipsticks for Valentine’s Day, curated by yours truly.

1. The nudes

I find nudes to be a hard category to select from. Because of my skin tone, nudes sometimes wash me out and I look pale (not pretty!). So even though I have many many nudes in my drawer, only these 3 are the ones I truly love and would recommend to someone with similar skin tone.

2. The corals

This YSL Peach Passion could probably be specified as a ‘nude’ lip color. But it does have a beautiful orange, peachy tone to it. I love it for an evening look. If you’re looking for a brighter coral for the day, MAC Vegas Volt is a fun coral and it won’t disappoint.

3. The pinks

Even though I love bright Barbie pink lips, I’m not listing those here because I actually prefer to have muted pinks for Valentine’s Day. It’s still technically winter in February and I’m still loving the muted tones and saving the bright vibrant pinks for spring and summer.

4. The berries

If you’re not feeling ‘sugar’, but rather ‘spice’ this Valentine’s, check out these deep berry tones. They make beautiful shades for evening wear too!

The difference between MAC Hangup and MAC Media below is Hangup is a Creamsheen and Media is a Satin color. Hangup is a little shinier and also has a tad bit of red to it. Media is a bit more purple and a cooler toned color, with a semi matte finish. I love both, but I find myself wearing Hangup a bit more because Media is very deep berry and harder to pull off.

5. The reds

And what Valentine’s Day is without red lipsticks? If you’re looking for a red that will make your teeth look whiter, opt for a cooler toned red (red with a blue undertone), like this Chanel #99 Pirate . It looks amazing on fair skinned girls. I used to never wear cool toned red  lipsticks until recently. I have olive skin and always thought a warm toned would look better on me, which it generally does. But sometimes, I do pick up the cool red if my outfit has cool colors and if I’m accessorizing with silver metallics.

Above – Wearing Chanel #337 La Flamboyante . I just realized this shade was from the limited Holiday collection 2014, and is now discontinued. A similarly beautiful matte warm toned red is MAC Lady Danger.

    Wow ! This is the most thorough lipstick round up I’ve ever seen. I love how you broke this down into different shades. The corals and berries are my favorite and the brands are really great choices.

    Yes I love all these swatches!! we have the same skin tone so it gives me a good idea how these colours would look on me! I have a lot of the STILA Lippies but I find that they’re too thick and sticky and doesn’t stay too long…
    Always wanted to try the YSL (because lets be honest, that packaging is too gorgeous), and the Kylie Lip Kit one too!

    First you’re so stunning and love this post so much! I love the pink ones that you shared. I have been going crazy with Mac Lipsticks lately as I find them more moisturized that the other lipstick. I’m actually looking for a Valentino red lipstick for Valentines.
